All Americans' prosperity is riding on the willingness of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform's willingness to strongly recommend to the President and Congress that they end a pattern of gross fiscal misconduct that stretches back 30 years or more, with only a few bright spots.
Congress and presidents need to be reacquainted with the art of taxation. "The art of taxation is like that of plucking a goose. The objective is to get as many feathers as possible, with a minimum of honking and biting" (Justice Benjamin Cardozo).
